The Challenge
Access to Education
In Liberia, the stark contrast between the potential of the nation’s youth and the quality of education provided by the state is an often insurmountable barrier to progress. The public education system is plagued with deficiencies, often leaving students without the necessary resources to thrive academically. The hidden costs associated with state education—such as uniforms, books, and transportation—can be insurmountable for many, effectively barring access to learning. Moreover, private education remains a distant dream for the majority, with its exorbitant fees far beyond the reach of the average Liberian family.
This grim reality is reflected in the statistics: Liberia lags significantly behind most African countries in educational outcomes, with one of the highest rates of out-of-school children aged 6–14 years. As Liberia stands at the third lowest per learner spending among ECOWAS countries, we strive to set a new standard, demonstrating that quality education is the cornerstone of national development and the birthright of every Liberian child.
Our Response
Zero Barrier Education
At Leaders Foundation Mission of Liberia, we are committed to eliminating learning barriers that separate the children in our village from their potential. Our foundation fully funds the tuition for every student and also the salary for every teacher. A student’s access to education is no longer limited by variables beyond their control.
Zero Barrier Education
Every student receives an excellent education that meets them in their reality. Most of our students live in extreme poverty where access to clean water, food, and safe shelter present a struggle to survive every day. At LFML they are provided two meals each school day, two uniforms, books, extra curricular activities, and many other resources. Our teachers and leadership team understand the culture of our students. We teach in simple language they understand, accelerating them to grade level proficiency. equipping them with the tools they need to embark on the road to learning and success. Our mission is clear: to elevate the standard of education in Liberia and, by doing so, equip the next generation of leaders to become self sufficient.
