Breaking Barriers to Education in Liberia
Liberia is a nation filled with bright, capable, and ambitious children. Yet for many families, providing their children with consistent access to quality education remains a significant challenge. Poverty, limited educational resources, transportation difficulties, the cost of uniforms and learning materials, and shortages of qualified teachers can all affect a child's ability to enroll, remain in school, and succeed.
The challenge extends beyond simply getting children into classrooms. Recent UNICEF data show that Liberia continues to face significant educational access and learning challenges. Among children ages 6–15, approximately 29.7% are out of school, while attendance and completion rates remain areas of concern.
For families with limited incomes, even relatively small education-related expenses can become barriers. Uniforms, books, supplies, transportation, meals, and other necessities can place education beyond the reach of children whose families are already struggling to meet basic household needs.
Leaders Foundation Mission of Liberia exists to help close that gap.
Our goal is to make quality education accessible and affordable for the children we serve. Parents and guardians make a modest contribution through registration and Parent Responsibility Fees (PRF), while LFMOL and its partners work together to subsidize the much greater cost of educating each child.
We strive to provide more than a place in a classroom. We are working to create an environment where students have the teachers, meals, uniforms, learning materials, academic support, Christian foundation, and opportunities they need to learn, grow, and discover their potential.
We may not be able to remove every challenge a child faces, but we can work to ensure that financial hardship does not have the final word over that child's education or future.
Our Response
Zero Barrier Access
At Leaders Foundation Mission of Liberia (LFMOL), we are committed to removing the barriers that can separate children in our community from education, opportunity, and their God-given potential.
LFMOL currently provides education from Nursery through Grade 8. As our students grow, we are growing with them. Our plan is to add one grade level each academic year until we reach Grade 12, allowing students the opportunity to continue their education within the LFMOL school community from early childhood through high school.
LFMOL heavily subsidizes the cost of educating each student. Parents and guardians contribute through a small registration fee and Parent Responsibility Fee (PRF), while the Mission, with the generous support of our partners and donors, carries a significant portion of the actual cost of operating the school. This support helps provide teachers, classroom resources, student programs, meals, uniforms, and other necessities that make quality education possible.
We believe families should have the opportunity to participate in their children's education without the full cost of schooling becoming a barrier. Our goal is to create a partnership in which parents and guardians contribute according to the school's established fee structure, while LFMOL and its supporters help bridge the financial gap.
Every student deserves an education that recognizes both their potential and the realities they face. Many of the children we serve come from families with limited financial resources and face challenges that can make consistent access to quality education difficult.
At LFMOL, students receive much more than classroom instruction. We work to provide nutritious meals during the school day, school uniforms, learning materials, extracurricular activities, Christian education, academic support, and other resources that contribute to the development of the whole child.
Our teachers and leadership team understand the community and culture of the students we serve. We meet students at their current academic level, strengthen areas where they may have fallen behind, and challenge them to continue growing. Through education, discipline, Christian values, practical learning, and opportunity, we are preparing our students with the knowledge, character, and skills they need for a stronger future.
Our vision extends beyond today's classroom. By continuing to add grade levels, strengthen our academic programs, and expand opportunities for our students, we are building a pathway that will allow children who begin their educational journey at LFMOL to one day graduate from Grade 12 prepared for higher education, vocational training, employment, leadership, and service to their communities.
